Should you add memory to your MacBook?

Even though we all hope to buy a computer that comes with enough memory for the things we will need it for, too many times there is the need to purchase additional memory to have installed. There are various reasons for having to go through such an upgrade and get additional macbook memory. At any point in time you could discover that you want to start playing more online games or you maybe you started getting into Photoshop and other programs, which require a lot of memory. While the current memory you have may be enough to install such programs it may not be enough to continue allowing your computer to run at full strength and rapid speed.

If you have started to notice after the installation of new programs that your computer just is no longer running as fast as it used to, then it is time to upgrade the macbook memory. Even though this is a generally easy project that you can do on your own, it is very important that you make sure that you know what you are doing. The simplest things can easily turn into a disaster on a computer if you hit the wrong thing or disconnecting the wrong plug. If you are dead set on installing new macbook memory on your own then make sure that you study up on it first.

Even though the entire process it simple enough, there are a lot of tiny step-by-step instructions that have to be followed. Otherwise you could find yourself taking apart the wrong part of the computer and that is not something that you want to find yourself doing. If you absolutely had to get help you could always hire someone to install the new memory for you but most would consider that a waste of money. Read through the instructions and try to give it a shot yourself first.

Now that it is time to purchase additional memory, what is it that you should be purchasing with so many options out there available to you? It will depend on the macbook you have. Models made up until November 2007 will only take a max of 2GB memory. Macbooks after that time will take a max of 4GB of memory. The memory modules that you will need are DDR2 PC2-5300 SODIMM. Be careful as to where you purchase your macbook memory though in order to make sure that you are getting the best deal possible.

Now, is the macbook something that you still feel is worth adding more memory to or has the other macbooks like the macbook pro and the macbook air caught your eye? Before jumping head first into any large purchase you will want to make sure that you are truly aware of the differences between them all. You may decide to simply keep what you have instead of investing into a new macbook.

To start with, let's look at the cold hard figures of cash. How much do they all cost? Since this is something that is the first to come to the minds of the savvy shoppers then let's get right down to business. The regular macbook is the cheapest between the three with a starting price of $1287. The macbook air is slightly more expensive coming in at $1799 and the macbook pro is a whopping $1999. But before you make a decision based on the price tags you have to consider what you are or are not getting for the sticker price.

Starting with the macbook there is a CPU of 2GHz, RAM of 4GB, and a Hard Drive of 74GB. The macbook air has a CPU of 1.6GHz, RAM of 2GB, and Hard Drive of 74GB. Since you would be paying a lot more for the macbook pro it is easy to believe that is comes with CPU of 2.2GHz, Ram of 4GB, and Hard Drive of 111GB. All of the batteries last for up to six hours with the exception of the macbook air which only lasts up to five hours.

Screen size on the macbook and the macbook air is 1280 x 800 while the macbook pro is 1440 x 900. The lightest of them all is that of the macbook air which weighs only 3 pounds while the others are right around five pounds. Either way you look at it, each of the macbooks have a little something for everyone. What may be well suited for one person may not work all that great for another and vice versa. Either way you go, you will eventually find yourself needing to upgrade the memory in order to achieve the high quality and speed that you would want to have.

While memory is always important to look at when purchasing a macbook, it is not the only thing that you will want to keep in mind. This is because you can so easily and so affordably upgrade your macbook memory that you should make sure to focus more on the other features of the computer. Whether you buy additional memory from the local electronic stores or your order online, double check to make sure that you are getting the right brand of memory as you should not mix and match the brands used in the same macbook.

With the decrease in price of acceptable laptops i tend to think of them as throw away items now and buy a new budget one every year!
